The Origin of SpeechCut – Why I Built a Mobile Video Editing App That Edits by Tapping on Words

Have you ever found yourself stuck in an endless loop of video retakes, trying to get that perfect take without any "ums" or awkward pauses? Or maybe you've spent hours in editing software, meticulously cutting out every little mistake? I've been there-caught between endless retakes and tedious editing. That's exactly why I built SpeechCut.

As a video professional with +20 years of experience, I've spent endless hours editing videos with professional tools like Premiere and DaVinci Resolve. But when it came to short-form content for social media, I was frustrated. The process felt overkill for something that should be simple. I just wanted to cut out filler words, trim awkward pauses, and make my message clearer, all without dragging clips around on a timeline.

So I started experimenting.

I tried tools like Descript, which lets you edit by deleting words from a transcript. It's powerful, but somewhat overkill for my needs, and tied to desktop. I wanted something mobile-first, something you could use right after recording, on the go. Maybe even record and edit at the same time.

Also one of the challenges for social media short videos was the caption creation, which seems to be a must-have. Tools for automatic caption creation have existed for a long time, like Captions.ai, but fixing transcription mistakes and timing issues has been not as fluent as I would have hoped. Also, I disliked that the caption creation was a separate step from the editing process. I wanted the edit and the captions to work directly hand in hand.

That's when idea for SpeechCut was born!

SpeechCut is a mobile video editor that transcribes your speech, shows it over your video, and lets you edit just by tapping the phrases you want to remove. You can clean up your message instantly and intuitively. It's not about filters or flashy transitions. It's about clarity.

If your message matters, SpeechCut helps you cut to the chase with it.
