This Privacy Policy explains how SpeechCut ("we", "us", "our") processes information when you use our Android app and our website.
By using SpeechCut, you consent to our collection, use, and disclosure of your information as described in this policy.

Quick summary
- On device by default: Your projects and videos stay on your device. Transcripts and word timings are stored locally. Video frames and video files stay local.
- Transcription hop: When you import a video, the app extracts the audio track and sends it over an encrypted connection to ElevenLabs, along with the language you selected and any optional workspace glossary or keyterms, to create a raw transcript and word timings. We do not send video frames or video files.
- Optional text features: Groq can process transcript or other text for project-name suggestions, proofreading, SmartCut, and optional script enhancement. Script enhancement may include the script, your instruction, About You, and glossary context. Short extracted audio samples may also go to Groq for language detection.
- Privacy-friendly website analytics: Our website uses Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused service that collects basic usage statistics without cookies or personal data. Our hosting provider may process minimal server logs for security.
- Payments via Google Play: Purchases are handled through Google Play Billing. We receive limited purchase metadata. We do not receive or store your card data.
- Supabase backend: For entitlement, gift-code redemption, subscription verification, and attribution, the app may send a random app-install fingerprint, gift-code redemption data and user agent, and limited Google Play subscription metadata such as purchase token and product ID to our Supabase backend. This does not include your videos, video frames, or full project files.
- No ads, no sale of data, no model training: We do not sell your data and we do not use your content for model training or marketing. ElevenLabs' Improve the models for everyone setting is disabled.
What the app does
SpeechCut is a video editor that lets you edit video by interacting with the audio transcript and use AI-powered smart cut suggestions. Automated transcripts and AI suggestions can contain errors. Always review before publishing.
Data we store and process
On your device
Projects, videos, audio, raw and final transcripts, word timings, and app preferences are stored on your device. We do not copy your videos, video frames, audio, transcripts, or full project files to our servers. A random app-install fingerprint, gift-code redemption data, and limited subscription metadata may be sent to our Supabase backend, as described below.
Transcription processing
To create a transcript and word timings, the app transmits the extracted audio track to Eleven Labs Inc. (ElevenLabs) over TLS, together with the language you selected and any optional workspace glossary or keyterms. We do not send video frames or video files. SpeechCut does not use your content for model training. We have disabled ElevenLabs' Improve the models for everyone setting.
Groq text and language features
Groq, Inc. can process transcript or other text for project-name suggestions, proofreading, SmartCut, and optional script enhancement. Script enhancement may also include the script, your instruction, About You, and glossary context. To detect the spoken language, the app may also send short extracted audio samples to Groq. We do not send video frames or video files.
Payments and subscriptions (Google Play)
Purchases are handled by Google via Google Play Billing. We may receive limited purchase metadata such as order IDs, purchase tokens, product identifiers, country, and timestamps so we can enable or verify your entitlement. We do not receive or store your full payment card details. Google is the merchant of record and may process your data according to its own terms and privacy policies.
Supabase backend
SpeechCut uses Supabase (Supabase Pte. Ltd.) as a backend for entitlement, gift-code redemption, subscription verification, and attribution. The app may send a random app-install fingerprint, gift-code redemption data and user agent, and limited Google Play subscription metadata such as purchase token and product ID. The fingerprint is a random identifier we create for the app install. It is not a hardware ID or an advertising ID. We do not send your videos, video frames, or full project files to Supabase.
Support communications
If you contact us by email, we will process the content of your message and your email address to respond and keep records of the interaction.
Website and hosting
Our website uses Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics service that collects basic usage statistics without cookies or personal data. Plausible may process minimal server logs such as IP addresses and user agent strings for security and reliability. Our hosting provider may also process minimal server logs for their operations.
Diagnostics and analytics
The app uses PostHog, an EU-hosted analytics service, for minimal usage analytics to help improve performance and fix issues. When you first initialize a project, you'll be shown a consent dialog for analytics tracking. You can consent to tracking, or decline it. If you consent, we collect anonymous event properties including app version, build type, locale, plan status, project counts, usage days, and device RAM bucket. If you decline consent or skip the dialog repeatedly, no analytics data is collected. Analytics data is anonymous and doesn't include personal information or your content.
Legal bases for processing
- Contract: To provide the app and its core features, including transcription and entitlement management.
- Legitimate interests: To secure our services, prevent misuse, and maintain reliable operations (for example, limited server logs and fraud prevention around purchases).
- Legal obligations: To comply with tax and accounting obligations related to purchases.
- Consent: If we ever ask for optional processing such as marketing communications, we will rely on your consent. You can withdraw consent at any time.

International transfers
When you transcribe, audio and related request data are processed by Eleven Labs Inc. using its international infrastructure. That processing is not limited to the United States. When you use language detection, project-name suggestions, proofreading, SmartCut, or optional script enhancement, audio samples or text may be processed by Groq, Inc. We use appropriate safeguards including the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses. Your project files and videos remain on your device. Entitlement, gift-code, and subscription verification data may be processed by Supabase Pte. Ltd. That data does not include your videos, video frames, or full project files.
Security
- Audio, related request data, and requests to our Supabase backend are transmitted using TLS.
- Your projects and videos stay on your device. We limit the operational metadata we send to our backend.
- You are responsible for basic device security such as OS updates and a device passcode.
Retention
- Your content: Not stored by us. Stays on your device.
- Transcription: SpeechCut does not keep the audio. ElevenLabs processes it to return a transcript under its terms. We do not use your content for model training.
- Groq features: SpeechCut does not keep the submitted audio samples or text. Groq processes them to return the result under its terms.
- Purchases: Receipt metadata is kept as long as needed to manage entitlements and meet legal obligations.
- Supabase backend: The app-install fingerprint, gift-code redemption data, and limited subscription metadata are kept as long as needed for entitlement, gift-code redemption, subscription verification, and attribution.
- Support emails: Kept as long as needed to respond and for our records.
- Hosting logs: Short-term security retention.
Children
The service is not intended for users under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided data to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your data, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within one month. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Finland this is the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman.
Changes to this policy
We will post updates here and update the effective date. For material changes, we may also notify you in the app.
